LRhodey is the son of Jeannette Rhodes and a man who left before Rhodey was born. Jeannette was an Attorney in Philadelphia, involved in the Civil Rights Campaign, and well to do. She sent both of her children, Jeannette, and Rhodey to private schools, and then Rhodey went to MIT at seventeen.

Rhodey majored in Aerospace Engineering. He was a member of the Air Force ROTC and Arnold Air Society as well as the Ulimate Frisbee team, and an off campuse Barbershop quartet. Other than that, he enjoyed throwing tennis balls that had been soaked in alcohol and then lit on fire at night, partying responsibly and getting stoned on pot . He also on occasion was Tony's alibi when Tony could have gotten into trouble.

After college he finished his piloting training and settled in to put in a couple years work at the Air Force. Tony eventually tapped him to be the liaison between the armed forces and Tony himself. Obadiah was not please..
{this is my witty end tagline! whoa!}

Rhodey wasn't sure where all the dogs came from, even Tony had one now, but it was making his allergies kick up like hell. He'd forgotten he even had those. The likelihood of Tony not building an animatronic dog and getting a real one had before been nil to none. But now they were everywhere, cute little puppy faces and shedding fur. It wasn't bad yet, they were all puppies it seemed, and puppies weren't quite the allergy bombs that real dogs were, but he should probably pick up some benedryl before someone caught on. It wouldn't do to ruin anyone's fun. Not this kind of fun anyway. He did love dogs. Just not until he could restock. Nowhere in the tower was safe.

He headed into the living room, hoping to have a moment to relax before he went on his interepid hunt for allergy meds and caught sight of the advertisement on the New York Times. The Space Shuttle Pavilion was finally open.

"Yes!"

Today, history had lost one of it's own. A true engineer's hero, a pilot's hero. The first man to walk on the moon. The world was poorer by one soul, and richer for him having been part of the human legacy.

Rhodey, who walked among wonders all the time, between Tony and the rest of the Avengers still was awed by the first man to walk on the moon. He wished he was in a position to do something in remembrance, besides taking a moment to lurk up on the roof, in a moment of quiet contemplation. He'd gone to school, hoping someday to be that man, the man on the moon, gotten his engineering degree, and he hoped he was living up to that legacy, even if the space shuttle program was no more. He wondered if he was doing enough sometimes, but he knew what he did was important, was vital. To live honorably and well, was his goal.

Rhodey didn't know what anyone else was up to, he'd heard Tony had gotten an uninvited guest and who it was, but he hadn't really seen most the folks in the house.

He wondered if it was the lack of trust Tony had for folks in general or the childish glee at 'collecting them all' that made Tony move everyone into the house with him. Or if it was maybe trying to contain collateral damage when one of the bad guys inevitably went after folks' loved ones? Tony's could take care of himself, but he didn't know if any of the other's had loved one's who couldn't.

Debating between making dinner, and watching a movie, he decided to do bother He made a chicken parmigiana that could sometimes even tempt Tony out of the workshop, so he started putting together enough of that to feed a regiment, while catching up with Jarvis. That should probably be enough food to feed anyone who found him, hopefully. Well that and maybe a salad? Been a long time since he'd had time and the excuse to make decorative garnishes. Wasn't quite what the military had Lt Colonel's doing after all. But he was on leave and he had time to kill so decorative salad garnishes would keep his hands in for finicky repairs.

He'd turn on a movie after he had dinner ready. He hadn't seen the latest Fast and Furious movie yet after all.

For being prepared for damned near anything, the Air Force did not have an emergency leave for 'my best friend since college decided to ride a fucking NUKE and terrify the shit out of me'. So instead, he had had to wait until he could get leave through the normal channels. He'd taken it rather hard, the only thing keeping him sane being a set of blueprints Tony had sent him about upgrading his War Machine armor, getting rid of all the Hammer-tech finally. It felt good to only have Stark-tech in his armor.

But finally his leave had come in and the first thing he'd done was make tracks for NYC. It was nice to not have to worry about catching a flight anymore. He was his own flight. Maybe not as fast as Tony though. They'd have to work on that while he was there. He knew Tony could help him with that. He had his own ideas, but probably Tony would blow his ideas out of the water. It is what the bastard did. He landed on the roof, and looked over the damage. Pepper must be PISSED. This was her baby. He just hoped Tony was recovered. He had some words to say to him.
